為 Demand & Supply Model 鳴冤

甚麼是 demand & supply model？Demand & supply model 是一個解釋價格轉變的理論。它假設價格是由市場的 demand & supply 同時決定的，我們只要推敲 demand and supply 的改變便可得出價格的轉變。如以下例子，將 typhoon 理解為減少 supply 的因素，從而得出價格改變的方向。

When typhoon comes, how will the price of vegetable change?

但 demand-supply 不是可分析價格以外的問題嗎？

是可以的。原則上，你喜歡如何用 demand and supply curves 是你的自由，你當然可以用它們分析其他問題，但這些分析己非 demand and supply model 內的問題！To repeat, demand and supply model is used for explaining changes in market price, not others.

 

為中五學生叫苦

中五會考的課程要求學生學習 demand and supply model，但近年所見有關 demand and supply 的題目己絕少是價格轉變的分析！以下是其中一年的例子，其大意為：

During the price war of the newspaper industry, a manager of a newspaper publishing company said, "If we do not reduce our price, our revenue will reduce." Explain with the aid of a demand and supply diagram. (要看 revenue 容的轉變，請 click 左圖的 button。)

這題目根本與 demand-supply model 無關 (也不是 elasticity 或 市場干預的問題)，為甚麼要學生以 demand-supply diagram 作答呢？(若學生不需繪圖作答，我相信很多學生都可取得滿分！)

筆者不是完全反對要求學生以圖作答，良好的圖象運用的確有助簡化問題，但若圖象的使用對問題的理解或分析沒有多大用處時，為甚麼不純以文字作答呢？以上例子，所要求的圖象分析根本與經濟理論無關，只是劃蛇添足！
